The volleyball scrimmage for sports supremacy involved the participants in the opening day matches on Friday. Argentina and Mexico were also featured in one of the matches of Pool B. The teams clad in “sky blue and white” outfits proved to be too good for victory and clinched success in straight sets. Argentinean squad sent 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, and 25-22) on board and claimed first win of the competition against Mexico. Victory did not come easy for Argentina as Mexicans involved them in a 79 minutes’ fight. The Ankara Sports Hall in Turkish City Ankara echoed the exciting slogans of fans at every attack and block attempt in the match.

Mexico couldn’t grab success in the match but effort of players was commendable. Mexican scoring-machine Alejandra Isiordia was blessed with incredible talent. She attacked with great energy and displayed an impressive strike. She accumulated match-high 19 points for Mexico. Likewise, Argentinean side was greatly supported by Sol Piccolo who scored 13 points.

Argentina had enough potential to give out a good performance against World. No 10 Mexico. Argentina returned to FIVB Youth World Championship after four years and set things off with impressive runs in the first set. They started the match with lot of energy put away early points on the scoreboard. In response, Mexico also hit the ball hard and attacked with Isiordia. Long rallied started out, whilst the score shifted up with close margin. South Americans (Argentina) kept their pace and continued putting more and more effort. First set continued for 27 minutes and finally Argentina emerged as team with better status. They secured opening set with 4-point lead at 25-21.

Success in first set enabled young Argentineans squad to take good start in the second set. They kept united and followed the same approach of hitting the ball in right spots. On contrary, Mexico was all raged up after losing the previous set. They came from different angles and tried to cover the deficit. Mexicans threw everything in attack and managed to create a tie of 14-all. Thanks to Natalia Cendan of Argentina who helped her team in re-taking the lead. Once Argentina went up, they played fast and added quick points. Mexican team seemed to have lost grounds and slipped second set as well.

Samantha Bricio of Mexico struggled for her team’s survival in the third set. She sent the ball wide to offer the opposite some trouble. Argentina’s defence strategy worked in that situation. They defended well and at the same time raised their scores. Piccolo worked out great cut shots and stole consecutive points from Mexico. Third set ended in Argentina’s favour at 25-22 and they announced match victory.

Argentina has the next challenge to overcome the Slovakian team in second match on Saturday, while Mexico will try their luck against Brazil.
