Ali Daei says ‘NO’ to Persepolis, Hamid Estili appointed new Red Army coach- Iran News

Former Persepolis manager, Ali Daei, has refused an offer for a second stint as the Red Army manager. Former Persepolis assistant manager, Hamid Estili, received a nod for the managerial post at the club meaning that the 42-year-old will manage the club for two years according to his contract with the Tehran based Iranian outfit.

Daei left the club during the last week following his team’s defeat in the Hafzi Cup. He also accused a few officials at the club for building a conspiracy against him in order to enforce him off his duties at the Azadi Stadium. Meanwhile, the club’s Chairman, Habib Kashani, believed that the former manager should have given it a thought before handing over his resignation to the club.

Former Iran manager took responsibilities at the club in 2009 after being in charge for one-year with the Iran national side. He led the Red Army to two back to back Hafzi Cup titles (2009/10, 2010/11) but did not have a very good 2010/11 campaign leading his side to a fourth place finish.

As a player he featured 149 times for his country and amassed an incredible 109 goals during his 13-year international career.

Following the departure of the 42-year-old, Persepolis officials appointed former assistant manager, Hamid Estili, as their new coach for the next two seasons. The 44-year-old expressed delight after his appointment and vowed to win the league title with his former club.

Former Steel Azin player further added, “I am here to prepare a strong team for the AFC Champions League. I will do my best to accomplish that.”

Estili previously managed the likes of an Iranian outfit, Shahin Bushehr and Steel Azin. He was Persepolis assistant manager from 2004-08. As a player, former midfielder made 82 international appearances for the Iran national side, bagging 12 goals during the process in his 10-year international career.

Estili will officially take charge of the Red Army from the next week with an ambition of winning a Silverware in his very first season as Persepolis manager.
