Ahmed Shehzad: A Pakistani cricket player who is in immense touch

Ahmed Shehzad with his sluggish start in cricket expected as a brilliant future star of Pakistan cricket, currently moving to a pinnacle in scoring with hundreds. A young man indicated his potency by performing and leading the Pakistan under-19 team.

Shehzad joined first-class cricket in a very early age just after two months later of his 15th birthday in January 2007. His performances in first-class cricket helped the Pakistan selectors with filling the disaster gap of opening pair. He has managed himself as an opener since in the start of his first-class career and also in U-19. By performing well, he proved that Pakistan talent is bright and has a unique standard in the world.

Ahmed Shehzad was born on 23rd November, 1991 in Lahore. Domestically he has played for Habib Bank Limited. Shehzad’s start in cricket was not impressive against Australia in 2009. In his maiden match he scored just one boundary and was run out. In the following match he scored 40 runs, 43 runs and was given leg-before wicket out on 19 runs in the final match.

His remarkable 167 runs in 2007 helped Pakistan to set on a win of a huge chase of 342 runs in the first Youth Test against England at Derby. His surprising performance of 315 runs in the U-19 team made an impact on Pakistan cricket, helping Pakistan to thrash the Australian in the home series with 5-0 with the highest score of 105 runs. Shehzad was in great touch in triangular tournament in Sri Lanka in 2008 which was won by Pakistan.

In 2009 the ICC World Twenty20, he was a part of the Pakistan squad where he played just one game in the opening match against England and was caught by Paul Collingwood soon. After a stumpy performance he was replaced by Shahzaib Hasan.

After a long time of his fringes selection, Shehzad was the dominant player in the New Zealand Tour with his splendid hundred. After performing well against the Kiwi’s he managed himself to set as an opener in the World Cup squad. He shuffled himself through his performances from the circuit of U-19 in the national squad for the World Cup 2011 as an opener.

The 19 year old, Shehzad started his first-class career in 2007. He has played 26 first-class matches with scoring 1,835 runs in total with 254 highest runs setting an average of 45.87. He has 5 superb centuries and 8 fine fifties in this format.

Shehzad started his One Day International career against Australia at Dubai in 2009. His maiden records are not impressive but overall he has managed an impressive record in One Day cricket. He has played just 9 ODIs with scoring 294 runs with 115 as his highest runs recently against New Zealand. He has 1 hundred and has set his average on 36.75.

In T20 International he opened his account against Australia at Dubai in 2009 with the same figure of 4 as in One Day and in Test cricket.  He has featured in 5 T20I matches with scoring 91 runs with an average of 18.90 with just 1 fifty.

In his 27 List-A cricket matches he has scored 1,056 runs in total with 130 as his highest runs. His 44.00 average has 2 hundreds and 6 half-centuries. However, in domestic T20, he has played 17 matches scoring 361 runs including 2 fifties.

By setting a splendid knock out against New Zealand in the start of his career he is expected to be in great touch with his bat in the ICC World Cup. After sprinkling a superb knock of 102 runs in his first World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh at Mirpur, he is determined with his recent performance. After resting in the second World Cup warm-up match, Ahmed Shehzad will open his account in his first World Cup match on 23rd February, 2011 against Kenya.
