Afridi prefers to join Melbourne with Abdul Razzaq, refuses other options

Former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi and attacking all-rounder, Abdul Razzaq have signed contract with Melbourne Renegades for the Aussies Twenty20 League Big Bash.

The hard-hitting batsman, Afridi already participated in the Australian T20 tournament from South Australia, last year. However, Razzaq is getting chance to play the Aussies event first time.

Meanwhile, the star batsman, Afridi showed excitement after receiving opportunity to play with his team-mate, and claimed that he was having more options to join.

"Opportunity that I couldn't turn down even though I had better money offers from other teams". The former skipper stated.

Afridi, who is also famous with the nick name of ‘Boom Boom Afridi’, represented his country in 43 Twenty20 International matches, scored 683 runs, smashed 2 half-fifties, and picked 53 wickets.

He played vital role in the Pakistan’s victory during the World Twenty20 Championship 2010, won the man of the match in the semi-final and final of the event.

The vibrant all-rounder participated in 325 One Day Internationals and 27 test matches from his national side, and captained Pakistan in the recent World Cup.

In the meantime, the Lahore-born, Razzaq, who played 26 Twenty20 fixtures for Pakistan, picked 18 wicket, and made 346 runs with the bat, rated Big Bash as challenging event.

"The Big Bash League is a tournament that is highly thought of in the cricketing world, and is probably the best T20 competition in terms of skill level and grounds." He said.

Razzag also served his country in 262 One Day Internationals and 46 test matches, and put some magnificent performances.

The coach of Melbourne, Simon Helmot showed his stratification over the team combination, and is expecting some contributions from Pakistani stars.

''Obviously we've got the extreme pace of [Dirk] Nannes, [Shaun] Tait and [Shane] Harwood, but with the spin of Afridi and the medium-fast bowling of Razzaq and [Andrew] McDonald - and with the spin of Hodge and Maxwell as well - it's excellent.'' He expressed.

On the other hand, the chairman of the Renegades, James Brayshaw is looking forward for excellent performance from his team.

"T20 is a great product, and I'm committed to making the Renegades the best team in the KFC T20 Big Bash League, and to providing a great experience for our fans." Brayshaw mentioned.
