A LIVE player analysis, Yusuf Pathan (IND) vs. Tom de Grooth (NED)

The leading team of pool ‘B,’ India with top points will face the Netherlands who are at the bottom with the least points, in group match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011 on 8th of March. Both teams have played three matches of the tournament so far. India have won two against Bangladesh and Ireland while one of their match was drawn against England. On the other hand, the Dutch lost all of their encounters with full member countries -- England, West Indies and South Africa.

Comparative to the Netherlands, the Indian team is blessed with variety of skilled players who are internationally recognized with their remarkable batting and bowling performances. Yusuf Pathan is one of the important players of Indian teams who performs in tough situations; as in India’s last match against Ireland he bravely took the pressure off from his team by hitting three sixes in a single over.

The fearless batsman has the ability to hit the ball far across the ground with perfect timing. Yusuf is not only a hard-hitting batsman rather he also serves Indian team as a right-arm off-spinner. The player has played 34 ODIs so far scoring 746 runs at an average of 32.43 including two centuries and three fifties. Pathan made his highest ODI score of 123 against New Zealand at Bangalore on 7th December 2010 and remained not out.

Since the start of 2010, he averages 49.66 at a strike rate of 126.62 including two centuries and a fifty in 11 innings. In ODI wins, he averages 53.11 at a strike rate of 125.45 while in losses he averages 18. Pathan averages more than one six per innings as in the 34 ODIs so far, he has hit 40 sixes.

Former Indian batsman, Sanjay Manjrekar describes Pathan as,
"Yusuf has a great gift of power. He's a hard-working simple cricketer who will hit the cover off the ball if it's in his half. He can win you a losing game if the attack and pitch suits him."

ICC World Cup 2011, the first showpiece event of Pathan’s career comes his way with big challenges where he has the chance to give some exceptional performance, using his aggressive batting style.

Tom de Grooth is one of the experienced middle-order batsmen of the Netherland’s team, who enjoys playing at big stage by making quick runs. In addition, the 31-year old also serves as off-spinner for his team.

The player has featured in 25 ODIs scoring 428 runs at an average of 20.38 including one fifty. His highest ODI score is 97 against Bermuda at Rotterdam on 18th August 2007.

Former Dutch captain, Jeroen Smits describes Grooth as,
"He can damage all attacks if he can find the same sort of form as he showed against England in that World Twenty20 game. He had a stint in Australia in the winter, which could help him in the World Cup."

Grooth was not given a chance to play in the 2007 edition of World Cup but he gave a remarkable performance in the World Twenty20 2009. ICC World Cup 2011 provides him a chance to show his bowling and batting skills.

The competition between two teams is expected to be an easy win for the Indian team because Netherlands have not shown any remarkable performance so far.
